How to scan your ID or passport
The traffic department will no longer accept faxed versions of your ID or passport to renew your licences with. Below are a few simple tips to help you scan your documents correctly.
A flatbed scanner is a lot like a copy machine, except the scanner can copy better detail and the user has a lot more control over the image.
To Scan
- Place your ID or passport in the scanner, with the image face down on the glass and close the lid.
- Start the scanner program.
- Select the file – Acquire menu (You may find this functionality under the toolbar as File – Scanner or File – import )
- Usually you will find a sub menu called – select source, this is where you select the scanner. This is saved as your TWAIN Driver (Or TWAIN32). Select this source, select Acquire, select image, because the document is all ready in the scanner, it should automatically start to read the document.
- Below is an example of what the control panel will look like once the image has been scanned. Please note this will vary depending on the software and scanner used.
- elect the preview or overview button to see how the scan appears.
- If you are happy with the quality use the mouse to select the section of the image that you want to scan and save. In this case it’s your personal details and photo.
- For your scan please select 300 dpi (dots per inch). This is a standard setting and will help ensure that the scan will print well.
- Select CMYK colours for better quality printing
- Save the file as a jpeg image or a PDF (Acrobat Reader).This will ensure the file size is not too large in size to email.
